In Memoriam Chan Huei Lock
We deeply saddened to learn that Mr Chan Huei Lock, immediate past President of the Club, has passed on in Kunming, China on 6 July 2026.
As Club president from 1977 to 1992, he was active in organising numerous stamp fairs and exhibitions as well as setting the foundation of the Association of Singapore Philatelists, which became the umbrella body of Singapore philately.
Mr Chan was also an accomplished thematic exhibitor and judge, helping many thematic exhibitors during his time.

Many years ago, I participated in a Stamp Show in Israel where Mr. Chan Huei Lock was one of the international jury members. He remembered my exhibit, and when we met over coffee during one of his visits back to Singapore from Kunming, provided me with a lot of useful guidance on how to write up an award-winning exhibit.
From there on, I learned and improved my exhibits progressively. He followed my participations in local and regional stamp shows and constantly reviewed my performance which served as source of motivation.
In one of our meetings, when he realised that I have an interest in the philatelic covers of Singapore Airlines, he kindly presented me with the 3 covers that I treasure, one of which is illustrated here.

I was introduced to SSC by Huei Lock in 1972, when we were doing NS in Ayer Rajah Camp. He had shown me the main parts of his collection viz - the stamps and postal history of Sarawak and his later Straits Settlement postal history, which had several rare stampless 'Post Paid' cacheted covers originating from Malacca, Penang and Singapore. He also nearly completed a KG V collection; having 70% of all the KG V issues of the Br.Commonwealth, except those exceptionally high valued denominations. He then sold me his collection of Singapore varieties & errors from the first two definitives set, which formed the core of my collection. May he Rest In Peace. - Kwan Yue - posted on Facebook
We have lost another philatelic "warriors". During 1973 onwards, after the Stamp Club meeting, we would all adjourned to Carpenter Street for dinner with all the lost warriors like Andrew Tan, Lim Sa Be, Chan Huei Lock ordering their favorite clay fish. The young collectors are myself, Michael Ho, Kwan Yue Keng. We had this get together fellowship until Carpenter Street closed. I stayed in contact with Huei Lock when he was in Kunming, he gave me lots of information on preparing exhibition pages and had the privilege to stay in his Kunming apartment. He invited me again to visit him in Kunming but due to my legs, I had to postpone my trip.
